So it is no wonder why for hundreds of years, people have been enjoying this drink for its calming effects and relieving properties. From public figures like Queen Victoria of England to Indian communities, this drink was enjoyed by many and was recognized for its medical benefits.
So if it was so famous back then, what about today? Let’s dive in and discover!
What is Cannabis Tea?
Before we dive into recipes and culinary aspects, let’s talk about what cannabis tea is and why it’s beneficial for you.
Basically, cannabis tea is a cannabis-infused drink made by infusing your water with cannabis flower or adding a cannabis tincture to a tea. Pretty simple, right?
This type of tea removes loads of sugar that usually comes with edibles and is excellent for those who want to go about replacing high sugars with other healthful options. If you are also worrying about smoking too much and want to give your lungs a break, this cannabis-infused drink is also an option worth considering.
Here’s what makes this drink worth a try.
Marijuana Tea Benefits
As you probably already know, the cannabis plant offers a variety of benefits that come from the various compounds found in the cannabis plant. From terpenes and flavonoids to THC and CBD, there are many compounds that can benefit your health and provide positive effects.
Our favorite, CBD, is known for its non-psychoactive properties and ability to provide pain relief, settle anxiety, combat depression, and so much more.
Here are some of the benefits that have been scientifically proven to be effective:
- CBD can relieve pain
- Can help with insomnia and improve sleep
- Has shown promise as a treatment for depression and anxiety
- CBD is a great anti-inflammation remedy
- CBD prevents diabetes
On the contrary, there is THC, a psychoactive cannabinoid famous for its high sensations and euphoric experiences. In addition, it also has a long list of therapeutic benefits, including pain relief and appetite stimulation.
THC is also used to help with the following:
- Can be used to treat glaucoma
- THC stimulates appetite
- It can decrease pain
- THC is known to treat anxiety
As you can see, for someone who is in for the therapeutic benefits of marijuana, cannabis tea could be an option.
Furthermore, for people who don’t want to smoke or vape their weed, or are worried about sugar levels and want to avoid eating sweet edibles, marijuana-infused tea is a way to go.
Cannabis Tea Recipes
When it comes to making cannabis tea, you have a couple of options. Both of them will work in one way or another and provide you with the effects you need.
These options are:
- Steeping ground up cannabis in a hot water
- Infusing tea with your cannabis
Cannabis and Tea Steeper
The first one and the easiest of the methods is to steep your ground cannabis in hot water and then quickly enjoy your cannabis drink.
Once your cannabis is grounded, we recommend mixing it with half a teaspoon of coconut oil for better infusion and add your mixture to a tea infuser to steep them in for about 15-30 minutes. You can also add other dried flowers of your choice such as lavender, chamomile and rosebuds to enhance the flavor.
To make your drink even more enjoyable, you can mix your tea with cannabis-infused honey, some milk, sugar and cinnamon.
Decarboxylated Cannabis with Oils and Strainer
This process requires more time and energy; however, the ultimate result is a more powerful psychoactive experience.
To make cannabis tea, we will first need to decarboxylate our cannabis. This will ensure that our weed is “activated” and is able to provide psychoactive effects.
In order to do so, you will need to grab a pan set and heat your cannabis in a pan to approximately 220 degrees for about 30-45 minutes long. While your weed is decarboxylating, grab another pan to make a water/fat mixture.
To do that, you will need to bring a cup of water in a pot or saucepan with an oil or fat of your choice. We prefer coconut oil due to its flavor and water-soluble characteristics. However, you can also use olive oil or other cooking oil of your choice. Once you have the mixture ready, pour in the decarboxylated weed and simmer on low for 2-3 hours.
Don’t forget to stir constantly to ensure that nothing sticks to the bottom of your pot, and you get a properly infused mixture. In the end, your mixture should appear slick and glossy. Refrigerate it for a few hours and then strain the excess water once removed from the fridge.
Finally, it is time to brew a cup of your favorite tea. Take your favorite tea bag and pour the boiled water over the tea bag or tea leaves, if you have some. While it’s hot, take a small serving of your cannabis oil mixture and stir it into your tea cup. Your cannabis mixture will then be dissolved and will create the perfect cup of weed tea.
Some of you may also find this process a bit time-consuming. Don’t want to invest the extra time in preparing your marijuana tea? Invest in some pre-prepared package of a CBD infused tea blend instead.
CBD Tea is the perfect way to medicate while enjoying a delicious hot brew, and it’s not psychoactive, so you don’t need to worry about “getting high.”
Try it with some honey and unwind after a long day full of stress!
Medicate with Cannabis Tea
The benefits of weed tea are endless. It is a great meditative experience that can encourage better sleep, reduce stress after a hard day of work and alleviate anxiety alongside body pain.
You can experiment with your tea as much as you want. Add some CBD or THC to your marijuana tea, or even both, include some honey or milk and make your weed tea uniquely your own.
